Join me for a fun escapade in the French Countryside for some R &R and some sight

seeing. We'll arrive to Bordeaux, France and transport to Yviers to our lovely home for the

week, located only 40 minutes to the famous medieval town Saint Emilion, one of the most

famous wine areas in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The French countryside offers some of the most enchanting and picturesque towns and

villages in all of Europe. Historically significant and culturally rich, they each have unique

architecture and beauty. ... These villages will delight with their fairy-tale castles, medieval

architecture and captivating scenery.

The property can accommodate up to 12 guests.  We will practice yoga twice a day (varied

styles- vinyasa, restorative, hatha, and kundalini) in the morning and at the end of the day,

either outside on the deck of salt water pool or indoors in the stunning, fully restored, double

height French barn.

What to expect when you visit: 

The French Retreat is a very special holistic retreat centre nestled in the

peaceful French Countryside, offering sacred space for groups come together

and share what they love.

About an hour from Bordeaux or Bergerac airport or a train journey from

Paris to Chalais, the house is surrounded by sunflower fields, so you can take

a wander or borrow a bike, find a sunset to marvel over and drink in the

limitless space.

The French Retreat is a home and a retreat centre for anyone looking to find stillness, reconnect with themself

or learn something new. You are welcomed as you would be as guest in our home, rather than a visitor to a

hotel.

 

We eat together, in the large kitchen in the cooler months but more often outside under the 'au-vent'. If you

need space there are tables and chairs dotted around the grounds. It's your retreat and you can choose what

suits you.

 

Your bed will be made up with a duvet, pillows and a throw. Soap, shampoo and bath towels are provided. you

will need to bring a pool towel.

Although it can be very hot in the day with clear skies, the evenings can be chilly so bring another layer if you

feel the cold or if you want to stay up late watching the stars, which are magnificent. It is a very rural and

relaxed location, comfortable shoes are recommended and if you head out you will find the local restaurants

are very informal. 

 

The local market town of Chalais is within easy walk, there are also a few bicycles for your use.

 

Other facilites:  Wifi, although being rural France the wifi is slower than cities, so please do not expect to able

to stream films; ping pong table, pool table.

Excursions include:

Day trip to Aubeterre sur Dronne - Officially listed as one of: « The Most Beautiful Villages in

France» since 1993, it has welcomed pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostella in

north west Spain, visitors and tourists for over 1000 years. Two important historical

monuments add to the cultural status of Aubeterre sur Dronne; the extraordinary,

monolithic, underground Church of St Jean and the Romanesque Church of St Jacques,

with its stunning façade. Visitors and tourists can enjoy meandering through the ups and

downs of the narrow streets, popping in to admire the many specialist shops, including a

leather worker and potters, and then settling down in the village square, Place Trarieux, at

one of the cafés or restaurants, comfortably shaded by ancient lime trees. At the foot of the

village, where the meadows meet the River Dronne, is a river beach.

Hewn from solid rock in the 12th century, is the largest subterranean church in Europe, and

a visit is an awesome experience, both in appreciating the sheer scale of the structure, and

in appreciating the Christian fervour which drove the workers, with their limited tools, to

create it.

Optional excursion: Day trip tour around the countryside, including the visit of a Château

Saint Emilion Grand Cru (visit & tasting of 3 wines along with a taste of 3 cheeses), a 3

course gourmet meal in a charming little restaurant in the heart of St Emilion (coffee

included - drinks NOT included), one hour of free time to explore Saint Emilion ( medieval

town, UNESCO World hertitage site. Saint-Emilion is a charming medieval village located in

the heart of the famous Bordeaux wine area. It is a very unique site were world-famous

wineries, fine wine, beautiful architecture and great monuments are a perfect match.

Combo Paris and French Countryside Retreat Paris

July 19th -July 23   Depart June 18th for your trip to Paris!! In Paris stay in centrally

Located Minerve Hotel in a shared twin room, June 15-19.  Enjoy Paris using the Hop on

Hop off bus, enjoy the sights, the foods, the shopping! On June 24 depart for Bordeaux from

Paris via by air or train. Flight time or train to be determined. Transport will be waiting to

bring you to the retreat.

Enjoy the retreat center with lodging, delicious gourmet foods, yoga, fresh air, beautiful

surrounds, historical sights. Includes one excursion to the small town of Aubeterre( see info

above)

Depart retreat center Saturday July 29th.

This option is additional subject to hotel availability when reservations are

confirmed.
